Originally from Crockett, Texas, Charles Smith moved to the Houston area in 1942 when his parents became part of the war effort. “Nancy was from Freeport, and when she was 15 or 16, she moved next door to me on Polk in Houston,” he said.
It took him a month before he got the nerve to introduce himself. “I would see her through the window blinds going out and into the garage to feed her pet monkey,” Smith remembers. He was 16, Nancy was 15 and a star athlete at Stephen F. Austin High School.

Thanks so much for sharing the wonderful story of Charles and Nancy Smith. “Little Things Mean a Lot” — one of my own favorites back then. They still do mean a lot…perhaps even more. Charles and Nancy: Your story of love and faithfulness in “sickness and health” is an inspiration. Keep on keeping on. God bless you.
